Gabiro Mtu Necessary Emerge as an Intense Singer in New Banger ‘iYAiYAiYA’

“iYAiYAiYA” is, in Gabiro’s own words, “a simple party vibe to my day one, those who knew when I started out as a singer in a traditional Ohangla band .”

“This is just but a taste of what my fans and supporters should expect in my collaborative EP that I have done with Asen B set to be released in July,” he adds.

It’s the sixth single to be shared from Gabiro, after earlier outings “Chances” (Joyner Lucas Devils Work cover), “Kus Kus” that got recognition from Korede Bello, “Bad Girl Loving”, “Seche Rach” and Daima Mjinga which was a dancehall backup of King Kaka’s  “Wajinga Nyinyi”.

Gabiro’s diversity has seen him transit from not only being a rapper but also being the best lyricist as is evident on his current releases ‘Bad Girl Loving’ and ‘Kus Kus’. He portrays himself as the best export from the lakeside town of Kenya; Kisumu city where he has always made sure to be top of the class by being ahead of at least all trends and lifestyles pertaining to music.

He is steadily building a reputation for Kisumu’s best lyricist, and but also shares his personal struggles through his art. From working as a matatu tout to battling drug abuse, Gabiro’s ability to tell stories separates him from rap music ‘status quo’.

He has worked with both young and well-known artists across the globe in both musical and non-musical collaborations including and not limited to Kidis, Wyre, Ketchup,Owuor Arunga and most recently the new gengetone crew Kavirondo Gang.

Patoranking releases first single off “Abule”

Nigerian afro-dancehall superstar PATORANKING announces his third album, Three, arriving Aug. 28 via his own Amari Musiq imprint and US-based indie powerhouse, EMPIRE. The project’s lead single “Abule” — a celebratio of his Lagos neighborhood, Ebute Metta, and of hoods worldwide — premiered today on Beats1 with Ebro, and is out now via all DSPs.

One of contemporary Africa’s most multifaceted artists, PATORANKING is an international reggae star whose dancehall anthems (“Daniella Whine,” “Suh Different”) have resonated from Nigeria to Jamaica. At the same time,
his afropop collaborations with Tiwa Savage (“Girlie O”), Wande Coal (“My Woman, My Everything”) and Diamond Platinumz (“Love You Die”) have made him a continental icon.

He’s extended his influence into North America through partnerships with U.S. labels EMPIRE and VP Records, and touring with hip-hop/soul icon Lauryn Hill. All told, his tracks have generated more than 250 million views on YouTube and over 160 million streams across major DSPs.

From “Odo Bra” with Ghanaian highlife star KING PROMISE to “Whine It” with Kenya’s SAUTI SOL, there’s no shortage of musical diversity on Three. The project delivers a heavyweight slice of conscious reggae on “Lion in the Jungle” while the tender “Matter” sees PATORANKING reconnect with TIWA SAVAGE, with whom he previously teamed on breakout track, “Girlie O.”

“Three is a strong number,“ PATORANKING says of the album title’s significance. “It stands for how I see language. In making the album, we tried to look at love, life and happiness. If you are listening to any of the tracks, even if it is a dance track, I want you to feel love.”

Watch Matata in Their New Vintage-y Video For ‘Mapema’ Single

Matata continue to be very disruptive with their music and we have all been living for their content. They are back with a new single titled ‘Mapema’.

‘Mapema’ is Kiswahili for very early. In their description, Matata use, “Mapema, very fast” as an ode to Kenyan vintage stylist Diman Mkare. Also as part of the description on the inspiration for the song, “The phrase “Mapema very fast” can be used in many ways. It can be used to express a feeling of happiness, fulfillment, disbelief & affirmation…As a way of celebrating Kenyan urban culture and telling Kenyan stories through Music and Dance, MATATA created this song to appreciate Sheng ,which even though is not an official language it’s widely spoken, especially by the youth.”

‘Mapema’ follows a style that was popular during the kapuka era in Kenya; its progression is beat then snare. Matata guys use conversation as the style of delivery. ‘Mapema’ is very bumpy and in true Matata style, they have an array of choreographed moves in their video.

The video is shot in the streets and is a continuity of their ode to Diman Mkare. The Matata crew is donned in some very colourful vintage suits and the buildings in the streets they chose to shoot in are very complimenting of their vintage swag.

It is another good Friday to learn a new choreographed dance courtesy of Matata, mapema very fast. Catch a vibe with Matata on ‘Mapema’.
